Erythrinus sp. Orange

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Has anyone had any experience with these guys? I have a rainbow wolf and saw a listing for the orange form on Aqua Imports but haven't been able to find too much info on them. It would be going in it's own tank.
Welcome aboard
Wow never knew there was a Erythrinus Orange Wolfish.

Never heard of this variant, but it shouldn’t be too different from a regular ery ery, just some more orange in it (similar to a Peru).

The pics on that website display some pretty distinctive fish. They show the Red/Rainbow/HighFin Wolf in both immature and adult colourations; both pics correspond to the fish that I have, which was purchased as a Rainbow Wolf. Interestingly, this is the only one that Aqua Imports designates as Erythrinus erythrinus.

They also show a Purple Wolf, an Orange Wolf and an Orinoco Red Wolf, all looking fairly similar to each other but quite distinct from the Rainbow. All three are designated as Erythrinus sp. with the colour moniker added on at the end. Are they suggesting that these are being considered for new species status?

Just based upon the pics they show, I'd have to say that the Rainbow version is by far the most attractively coloured variety. But, the pics shown of the three "sp." colour varieties all seem to show fairly small specimens, so no way to know how different they might look as adults. The colour change in my Rainbow from a 2-ish-inch fish to a 6 inch subadult was phenomenal; if these others change as much they might turn out be real stunners.

All it would take to find out is a spare cycled tank...around 6 months time...a fair bit of meaty carnivore-style food...and 60 bucks! Got my fingers crossed for ya! :)

well... i had the same questions so i ordered (3). will arrive next week. I plan on including them with 3 rainbow wolfs i have growing out in a densely (Fake) planted aquarium. they're all around the same size, i may grab (3) purples to round out the group.
the 3 rainbows are in a 75 with a few polys, dawkinsia barbs and some other growouts.

Arrived today. I’m color blind so my description make not make sense but these are much lighter and less red then the previous ery erys I’ve raised and definitely lighter in color then the group of rainbows I have in another tank.
QT’ing in a 20l with tons of pvc fittings but no light
