Hi, does anyone keep redfin perch in their tank? if so would you be able to answer some questions?

would 1-3 fit in a 75x75x60 CM tank?

will they eat flakes or should I establish gambusia first as a feeder. (that is the feeder fish from the lake they live in)

do the require special care?

Would the perch from the lake be stunted as all are very small. If so would they grow any more or stay small (small is probs better for me)

thank you.

The aquarium is much too small. Perch usually grow to at least 25cm in size, often significantly larger. Which already makes the tank too small. Although they are relatively adaptable, they still need clean water, which can quickly become problematic in such a small aquarium.
They also need cooler water. They can tolerate warmer summer month if kept under stress free conditions, which means clean water, enough space etc. Which I don't consider as given unless you keep them in at least a 1000l tank. In literature you also find minimum tanks sizes of 2000l. For the rest of the year you need to keep the temperature below 24°C. They do best in a range 15-24°C with some month at the lower end of the range.

If you can get your hands on some, bitterlings are a good replacement. They barely get to 10 cm or so, and are nice active fish. They're shaped somewhat like perch, some species also have similar colors.

They don't take the heat very well either, but they're hardy enough. Worth a try if you can keep them decently cool.

These are the ones, but I forgot you were in AU. I can go to the nearest lake and collect some to see if I can keep them, but at AUD24 each, that would be a pricy experiment for you.

It's probably better to go with pygmy perch.
