I import a fair number of monster fish to Canada, with a focus on Asian arowana. I think the SB craze is mostly driven by the breeders in Thailand/Malaysia/Indonesia. In general, novelty drives the fish hobby in Asia and maybe elsewhere. Breeders are constantly trying to come out with something "new" or "different' to appeal to consumers. While I appreciate some of the new albino and leucastic forms of fish coming to market, I am no fan of the SB craze. I especially do not like SB arowana or the hunch back variety of reds. The spinal curvature is a deformity in my opinion. But to each their own I guess.

I honestly like the look of short-bodied fish, such as one currently on the market: Pangasius, and the Peacock Bass. I agree with

, breeders are trying to create something new, and though sometimes bred cruel, I like the look of them. In August, I read an article about Balloon Bellied Mollies, and lets just say, I am never getting them. From what I summed up from the article, their spines are curved downwards, so that they look like they have a ballon belly, but it is just the spinal curved down, and their organs and belly down their 
Live aquaria has a regular one in, probably gonna go fast though.If there was a SB gulper cat......... I might do some bad things to acquire it

My first reaction to gulpers was “they’re okay,” then I saw a video of one take down a koi bigger than it...
May be fun if I’ve got an extra tank on hand.
That’s the best way to describe them-deformed. Should stop culling all the deformed fish because someone will buy them lol.
If any individuals of my spawns showed up with short bodies, they were culled, because I considered them deformed, and not worthy of possibly passing on the deformed genes.
