I'm guessing it's a similar looking species. This guy knows his eels. I've been looking for 5+ years and never seen one offered.

Yeah it most likely was mislabeled as Fangtooth.

Yeah it most likely was mislabeled as Fangtooth.

Many use the terms Fangtooth, Hookjaw, and Viper to describe several species with impressive dental work. Similar the Payara describing several species of toothy Characins.

I'm guessing you likely saw a "Chestnut" Moray. A smaller more common species of the above. I've seen them offered occasionally for under $100. Just a wild guess....
