I love the look of tannins. My outside tank had a little bit of stained water. This is what it looked like irl a few months ago.

No. It's more closely related to a blue acara. It's a native Aequidens from Panama. Highly aggressive towards one another.
I think they are technically the same? Just synonyms, as I see both for rivulatus.
It's probably a genetic difference, hence the reason for certain Aequidens to be moved into it. I'll have to find on the reason why.

These papers looked at Terminalia catappa (Almond leaves). I did not look for driftwood specifically but rather at tannins.

Agreed, very different behavior but the markings are very close.
