Feeding prawn, shell on or off?

Hello Just a quick question. I heard from someone that feeding rays fresh raw prawn with the shell on is good for them? How do you guys suggest preparing the prawn? Currently he eats Hikari Jumbo Carnisticks, Bloodworms and Whitebait.

The ray is around 7-8 inches.

Yeah that makes sense. Most likely going to take the shell off myself. I am just interested if feeding with the shell on is supposed to give anything extra to the rays.
 
I buy the frozen cooked and peeled ones from my local supermarket and they go down a treat
