I took delivery of my 300g fibreglass tank mid may. It was so stressful trying to get it to where I wanted it. I knew the external dimensions of the tank and measured everything to make sure it would fit through doorways and just generally made sure that this tank wasn't going to give me any nasty surprises. According to my measuring it would be tight, but it would go.
Then when the tank came we started getting it inside and it soon became apparent that the external dimensions they'd quoted on the website were slightly off. The tank was a couple of centimetres bigger than quoted and we had a real problem. Anyway, several doors taken off their hinges and a breakfast bar completely dismantled and a load of cussing later, I had it in the room I intend to put it. The first picture shows the tank only.
Then it was a simple case of making a stand, I didn't want the tank on the floor. Not only will raising it up make viewing the fish better, but more importantly it makes it possible to gravity feed from my overflow into my intended filtration receptacle, a 45g drum situated right at the side of it. The second picture is the tank on it's stand. In time the styrofoam will be hidden.
Then I built a canopy. It has six removable panels, all of which will have catches on just in case of jumpers. In the middle is a large tri-wall polycarbonate roofing sheet. Again this will have catches fitted. My led lights will sit on top of the polycarbonate
sheet. The third picture shows the tank on it's stand with the canopy fitted.
The tank will remain in the room shown but not in that position. My 180, which my brothers having, is currently where the fibreglass tank will end up. The big move will be next weekend. Today I did a fill test just to check the viewing panel was sound and that my bulkhead was good. It took nearly 3 hours to fill it and thankfully, no leaks. I switched the pump on and got it all running. It ran for a few hours and everything seems to be fine.
Next weekend my brother will be taking my 180 and then, after emptying my fibreglass tank, I will move it into its final resting place, fill it back up, and sort all the filtration out. I'll give another update next weekend and hopefully post some more pics.
