1) Never discount nature's design for predatory fish, even those that have been heretofore peaceful long term. I'll assume in this case putting in a roly-poly parrot with a fahaka (whom it no doubt resembles to a color-limited fish) in a long-term stable setup was gonna be a mistake.
2) Always have extra tanks, or resist the temptation to add just one more fish.
One could argue that placing ANY fish with a fahaka - no matter how docile it may appear - is asking for imminent deaths. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of their all-too-short lives.
What to tell your daughter? It didn't acclimate well. Sometimes the briefest truth is best. The devil is in the details, and evidently Filbert was feeling a little devilish.
