Hello All
I'm trying to design my 75gallon sump and I'm thinking of having two chambers of the sump in foam. I'm was thinking one of the first and last chambers. I'm wondering if this is a good idea for water polishing and what PPM foam do you recommend. The supplier that I found has foam in 10,20,30,and 45 PPM.

Usually it is Pores Per Inch....and the higher the number the finer the filtering. ..
I run, in order, 10, 20, 30-ppi then 300micron, 200micron and 100micron filter socks. The coarse should be followed by finer and finer media until the desired polishing is achieved. Don't underestimate the bio-media for filtering as well and the more mechanical filtration the less visible particulate matter there will be. To clear the water and "brighten" it up a final carbon filtration can be used but I use a UV sterilizer as carbon has never been a favorite of mine.

I used two fine sponges but when I started to use filter floss it made a huge difference but does get clogged easily

This is a good topic. It's not always the most exciting topic but something that I've thought about and have tweaked since my sump has been up for over a year now.

I recently added a 2" deep foam block post my socks and before the biofilter chamber. I dont recall the PPI, but I would guess 30. This replaced foam with larger holes. At first I was concerned that it slowed down the flow to the bio, but it does a better job helping mechanical.

After bio, I have a final tray where I use two of the "blue pads" with a felt sheet sandwiched in between for final polish before return pump.

I'm always tinkering with foam and pads but satisfied with what I got so far.

I have even played with putting foam down into the filter socks....as kind of a pre-post-filter...hahah!! It really works....just kind if a pain to get out of the sock to clean....
