you only need a 4x turnover. with a single ac110 pushing 500, youre way over that. OBVIOUSLY more is better , but as far as requirements for the tank, youre fine with a single ac110, or even emp400
there not as effective as a canister or a wet/dry, 4 turnover in a hob isnt enough thats barely any contact time

i ran a emp 400 on a 55 for a long time on a heavily stocked tank but i def suggest at least two hob filters now.

I have found this to be accurate. Though I do like the idea of redundant filters. I would go with a pair of AC70s, the AC50s would do fine I just don't care much for the smaller ACs.

I would do 2 AC 70's. One on each side. If you only have 1 AC 110, it will be on one side of the tank and all the crap wont be in the current and build up and the other side of the tank. Now if you want alot of fish in your tank, 2 AC 110's is a must.

I would go with a fluval 405, IMO they do a much better job than HOB filters. a little more money, but well worth it

Great minds think alike. This is exactly what I decided to do a few days back. Plenty of filtration and I can evenly disperse it.
