hi

i have a male firemouth , iam thinking of getting a female what would be the min tank size for two firemouth with no tankmates. thanks

I would say about 35 - 40Gal+ for a single Firemouth with no other fish , but if you would like tank mates for him/ her i would go with at least a 55Gal if not bigger depending on what other fish you plan to get .

a 3 foot 30 gallon should be good for one pair, so long as they are a mated pair. :)

In my opinion, a 29 gal tank would be cramped, but not 'cruel'...

3' 30 gal would be a decent small tank for a pair...

larger will make them happier...

Then keep in mind the happier you make your fish the happier they will make you ;)

Id go with a 40 long or 55 for a pair and a 30 long for single..you have to remember a firemouth can reach 6in ive seen some 6in firemouth and it will make a 29 gallon look cramped.

I would say a pair of FMs will need a tank with a minimum 30" x 12" foot print. So you could get away with a 20g long.

5 to 5.5" is a more realistic size to expect FMs to get. The pair I had were both just over 5" and never spent any time in anything smaller the a 75g tank.

I agree, but isn't a 30" x 12" a 30g long?

If you go by the standard two gallons for every one inch of fish rule, which I know most around here don't, a 30 gallon is more than big enough for a pair of Fire Mouths. As for how fast it grows that can depend on a lot of things, but a one inch FM could reach five to six inches within two years if not less.
