so i had an idea... there are all kinds of waterproofing stuff out there.. just not fish safe.. so on my test build .. i did a few coats of the normal stuff from Lowes .. then did a few coats of permadri pond coat over the top .. its working wonders ... and it uses MUCH less of the $$$ costly pond coat..

thats great news!

mine has been filled now just shy of two months. No signs of any issues or leaks.

this has been a great read. i am so glad it worked for you. I have had plans for a large plywood tank for quite some time but never actually went for it because of the cost of waterproofing. this is THE product I have been looking for.

well done!

What is "the normal stuff from Lowes" ?

I absolutely love this build. The tank looks amazing. I can't wait to try my hand at making something similar. I really think I'm gonna try the liquid rubber you used- I'm just trying to make myself wait long enough to see that you don't have any problems with it.

I have been watching this thread since day one. AWESOME!

I have had plans for an outdoor pond (raised above ground) for like 3 years now but never went ahead with it because of costs. (it should be around 3-4000 gallons) This Zavlar stuff is the cats meow!

Does anyone have any idea where I can get it in Winnipeg (Canada) or order it perhaps? I have not been able to locate it at any of the usual places like gnome depot, grona, Crappy tire etc.etc.

Great build!

pfft... soft :P
jks

But joey this is a VERY good build, bloody wish i had more space at home so i could give it ago.

The black tank and white sand looks stunning.

i was having a look and i couldnt find it anywhere (i probly missed it) but whats the footprint on this tank?

im just going to take a random guess and say 5x3x2 or something?

good work on stoping and taking photos n stuff too, i know i get too involved when i do DIY stuff and have nothing to show for it but the final product.. with no description on how it got there.

Best of luck to you & the fish

...Danny...

Thank you!

Here is another update of the tank. Video shows the equipment i am using. The DIY equipment is the wet/dry, planted fuge, drip system. every thing else is store bought.
