Well it’s happening. Digging has finally commenced. I’m almost done with that now, I just have to shave down the sides a little more. I already have the liner and underlayment ready to go, and I have a pump picked out as well. The pictures make it look much smaller but it’s about 11’x6’x4’ which brings the total to around 2000 gallons. Another added bonus of this whole project is I just got a job at my local pond store, which has enabled me to learn so much more!! More updates to come.

Looks like hard work!

I would be concerned with the brick wall foundations as the pond looks quite close. Soil being much denser than water.

It doesnt look like you will have bottom drains? KOI constantly stir the bottom so your water wont be clear.

I’m also concerned about that wall being so close to the water. You may want to look into that and while you’re at it, you may want to verify with the city whether or not you need a permit

I’ll definitely look into city permits but I believe I’m in the clear as it’s just a retaining wall.

I will bot be doing bottom drains because if one of those goes wrong the whole pond has to be dismantled. Instead I’ll be running a bottom pump with a pressure filter.
Something like this https://www.amazon.com/OASE-AquaMax...=1724796543&sprefix=oase+pumps,aps,161&sr=8-3

First KOI pond so you will learn more through experience and adjustments.

Having a pump fed filter means the dirt that has accumulated, clumped together and dropped out of the water column (settled out) then gets churned into fine particles by the pump impellar which makes it more difficult for your mechanical filter to remove and will increase your filter maintenance.

But give it a go.
