FIsh CHANGE gender?

I have a 55 G ai just setup to breed convicts about a month and a half ago. i bought 3 females (bright orange sides) and 3 males. One of my males i swear must have become a girl, there is no orange whatsoever, and that smaller male and a bigger one now have eggs and some fry. While one pair in my tank a natural female and a male have about 100 fry swimming with them, the transvestite fish thing has only bout5-10 babies... Does this sound possible?? or did i just get a female with NOOOOOOOO orange wahtsoever?? this is Blowing my mind!

There are many species of fish that change gender. There are even species that exist with only females and select a few females to temporarily become males for spawning purposes then, return to females again. However, convicts are not one of the species know to gender swap.

Weird... This may sound stupid, can female cons, just have NOOOO orange at all? probably right?
 
yea, i understand the colors morphing and stuff, but this pair with the Freak female only had about 5 fry . pathetic... just got aweak gened fish i guess. thanks guys
 
I have heard swordtails change sex once the males reach adulthood, but I don't know of any cichlids that do.
 
They're not changing sex.:screwy:
The pink on the bellies comes & goes to show whether they're ready to spawn, too stressed, or whatever.
 
its never had any colors, sides the boring black male convict pattern... IT CHANGED SEX i swear.
 
i believe you. i got one as well, that has remained female size has laid eggs with another female, and has produced some fry as well... very weird, but i swear its a trans-gender or something. it has never really had any color, and hasn't gotten any bigger then 3"'s, and has the look of a true female con.. lol i guess i just scored a really messed up con, and i thought it might be special becasue of its strange line pattern.... haha
