The pink on the bellies comes & goes to show whether they're ready to spawn, too stressed, or whatever.
The color change is not what we are talking about. My previous convicts pair in the 10gallon which laid eggs.
Later I moved the large male convict (because it got so aggressived once the fry were started swimming), it was moved from the 10gallon tank to the piranha tank with a another large male convict and slowly the other male convict from the 10gallon tank started showing some orange and later laid eggs and even got fertilized.
And yes, I know which one is male and female. We are basing our facts from experience.
