If convicts are cheap in your area, I would get 3-4 males. They are great for spreading aggression around and the ones that I have owned aren't skittish.

Any other cichlids? The convicts at my lfs are tiny and would get destroyed plus I don't really like convicts. Maybe a Texas and oscar? Plus 4 silver dollars?

Why not add a school of silver dollars as dither's ? They will always be swimming all over the tank and will encourage the other fish to do the same

Thats what I did ...worked out well.
