I was doing a water change in this quarantine tank when one of the bigger rainbowfish that I was soon going to move over to main tank got stuck in this flower pot opening.

In retrospect, I think I should have posted for advice as he probably could have survived stuck for awhile while I figured things out

I wriggled him out which I now thing was the wrong method. I might b have been better trying to smash flower pot.

Anyway it's obvious his swim bladder is messed up among other injuries.

Should I just euthanize him? I hate seeing him suffer unless there's a smallchance
he could recover.

If I should what do I do? I know clove oil is best but I don't have any.

This has been a bad week for me. Lost a rummynose tetra two days ago bc it swallowed a giant piece of Mysis and I guess he couldn't digest/pass it.

I won't feed Mysis to this tank now. I threw out that flower pot and I'm going to remove this ceramic decoration in the main tank that a fish could get stuck in the future.

Thanks for any input. Also what do you think I should've done to get him out of pot opening?

If that is a open wound I think no chance of recovering.

I found the thread on euthanasia. Freezing hi. Isn't recommended but that would seem easiest for me to do other than just letting him sit in the tank.

I probably should just cut his head with a knife since it's such a small fish as that would several it's spine instantly.

Obviously now I wish I would have smashed the pot but I guess I could have tried that and accidentally killed him that way too.

Don't feel bad things happen with fish in the hobby all the time. Yes removing the pot would be good.

Thanks. That actually makes me feel better.

If I could do it over again, I would have just euthanize him right away.

I decided to do a water change on the big tank and move the rest if the "Deep water Creek" rainbows over as I knew that would make me feel better. I decided that I be was going to euthanize the fish after the water change. Poor guy was already dead.

Good thing, again, is I saved my more prized fish from suffering this fate in the future. I took out a barrel from the main tank. I also took out a lava rock with holes in the middle.

There's another group of lava rocks that I need to remove in the future but I have time as clown Loaches already swim through openings. The biggest one that fits still have wiggle room and the smaller ones have several years before they are even his size. I will remove that within the next six months.
