Fish in a black garbage bag?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
isnt it common sense not to use bags with deorderizers? i mean common... bag that smells nice = chemicals????

Ya I'd want to make sure that there are no chemicals in the bad for odor control etc., that might harm the fish. I wouldn't do it. The person can't bring a cooler, garbage can, rubbermaid container or something?

walmart & home depot is your friend for cheap / large rubbermaid buckets & 5g home depot buckets. /cheers.

ps: they also carry XL black heavy duty trash bags at walmart and home depot! just dont get the ones that smell nice... lol

Not calling anyone out... but I have picked up fish from a buddy, and he successfully kept fish in small trashcans with trash bags in them... and a hob filter. Not only was his fish great quality but he really had fish living in bags for weeks. He's here on mfk but I don't want to drop a name with out permission. He did it in the heavy duty trash bags. lol Rare cichlids too. IME everything worked out well and his fish were all in good shape.

Says someone who's also tried transporting fish with large black garbage bags, and had one essentially blow out the bottom. with approx 2.5 gallons of water in it. Garbage bags never advertise that they hold water. Sometimes you get lucky..sometimes you don't. Is it Safe? if your lucky.

+1

I use trash bags inside of styro coolers or storage bins that I question the cleanliness. They provide a good barrier and keep the light out.
