FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The smelts at "Wonder" Lake that I went were decent sized about 8" average size. Minnesota has recently outlawed use rainbow smelts as bait due to VHS regulations and the smelt being invasives so I can't use the smelts as bait. However you can use Hooligans (larger smelt species) as dead bait for northerns, lake trout and catfish. Catfish should be biting soon in the Mississippi River very soon, caught a 12lbs channel catfish last spring which is a big catfish up north of Minnesota.

hey man a 12lb channel cat is big just about anywhere, even dreams and jworth wouldn't turn their noses up at one ;)

haha i'd love to catch a trout, especially big lake trout, just never had the opportunity. Don't know anything about fishing for any of those species, so more power to you! Very nice fish.

and a nice big channel is always a treat!

I'm new to trout/smelt ice fishing too as I've been sick for whole winter (stupid mono) and I missed out whole icefishing season. Since walleye/pike season are closed already so I decided to try out new things that I never do before. I wasn't intend to go fishing for smelts but there are smelts in trout lakes and they were biting on same bait for trout. There must be at least 50 people on that lake for smelts than trout. It was fun night at there. Im new to catfishing too as I only caught three catfish in my whole life but they are blast!

Hit the surf today. I got a late start and I only fish a couple of hours but despite the fierce east wind and seaweed I managed a pomp, a gulf kingfish and a whiting.

so yesterday was kind of a flop. we caught some monster chubs and a few bluegill and hit the water. first 2 fish were 9.01 and 9.36 lbers. got one other 7lber and a handful of dinks. It was nice to learn a new body of water but man is it shallow most of it 7ft or less. Probably wont be taking my boat up there, its a rock magnet

two 9lbers and a 7lber and thats a flop day smh ;)

Whats the bidness....whats going on around here....

Man its been a while since I came and hung out with you cats on here and looks like the 2012 season is off and running for a lot of people. 12 pages by my ticker with some pretty decent catches. Well I've been fishing off and on and have landed a few fish here and there on my outings. I've not kept up with numbers, which I would suspect to be around 50 fish so far this year, here are a couple of pics of two of the larger bass that I've had the opportunity to put my hands on. The biggest went just a tad over 7lbs and the other just around 3.75 lbs
