Instigator. I have an idea, velanarris: Stick to facts, what you KNOW and try to come up with some positive input instead of derailing a thread which, without your crap has actually been quite informative.

Anyone here ever used a product called TLC? Anyone ever heard of it?
Could not have said it better myself. And btw instigator he was adding a TON of ammonia and as previously mentioned much more than any fish could release. Face it kiddo you don't know what your talking about. You got called on it now let it go please.
I have heard of TLC btw never used it.

Apparently I've missed something being the new guy......

Anyway, thanks for the help for those of you who offered it. I thought it was probably too much ammonia, but I was just following the directions on this very site that said to keep adding it until the nitrite spiked.... When it never spiked but the ammonia kept getting higher I decided to stop adding it but I guess by then it was too late...

The directions I used from MFK:

You can start off by adding X drops amount of NH3 until a level of 5ppm is achieved. This X amount of drops has to be added daily until the nitrITES spike. When the nitrITES spike dose the tank with ½ X (from previous step) amount of NH3 drops daily until nitrITE is 0ppm causing a nitrATE peak. Once again, once both NH3 and NO2 have checked out at 0ppm over several days, and your tank is cycled, do a large water change to reduce the NO3. I personally don’t like this method a whole lot since it stresses out the tank a fair bit.

OK, here are the results with the TLC after 8 days:
Ammonia, 0
Nitrite, 0
Nitrate, 5ppm
I am going to test drive the tank with some spare mollies. Sound safe enough?
I have to ask a question. What damage can you do to your fish cycling the tank with them in there? The LFS told me to use the cichlids to cycle the tank...they are hardy.
Of course I will entertain a healthy skepticism as this would also be a place that would be selling me replacement fish. LOL

Hmmm that one would lead me to put the same amount every day...is that a typo in there? I googled fishless cycle and read...what I read said you add amn every day untill you get back to the 4-5ppm.

Mollies are definitely safe enough :) I used them and Giant Danio's on my original fish cycle and they had to tolerate some real ammonia and nitrite with no additives (Prime etc )

Yes, but my point is they do tolerate it and it doesnt kill them, does it?
Now, since the mollies are small, when I am sure I am in the clear, should I just add the cichlids and let em eat the mollies?

Nope, you didn't, they did.

Rob, you followed the directions correctly. Like I said in my prior post, before the trolls decided to act up, don't trust any of the "quick cycle" products. The best way, and the way that always works is ammonia and time.

Nope if you google fishless cycle and read you will see that one is different in what others say to do. All the others I have read say go to 4-5ppm for a target and add again every day to get back to the 4-5ppm. It should start to drop to 0 in a day.

:banhim:

Well this doesn't sound terribly conciliatory now does it?
In fact, this appears to be a totally defensive post designed to deflect responsibility for boorish behavior. Certainly no useful info was imbued here! Velanarris, in the future, it would be good to ban yourself from a thread where you have established yourself as the premier troll. Don't hijack a thread with useless BS and then add more reiteration later. How many forums have you been banned from thus far?
