This thread rocked my world. It's amazing. I'm not a super experienced tanker but this works. Much thanks to all the threads on fishless cycling on MFK.

So with me stepping up to a 150 gal from a 55 gallon best bet for me would be to throw in water, hook up my current filter with mature bacteria, add in some of the rock from my current tank, drop in stability, and add fish? Or am I missing something?

I woudl assume that the stability will work in conjunction with my existing bacteria to create enough to keep my tank healthy in that short period of time till I am fully cycled in about a week.

I could also dump some of the water from the 55 gal into the new 150. Just prefer to have only one tank running and full on my first floor flooring.....lol

or
you could fill the 150 with dechlorinated water,
install all new filtration
add fish
and follow the instructions on the bottle of STABILITY for dosing...

anything that would add to the Beneficial Bacteria is just a plus, but is NOT absolutely necessary...

I'd leave the old water out...for sure...it's old.

If you are adding the same number of fish that the current filter is servicing you should be alright, however, that is not "Fishless Cycling". Fishless cycling as the name implies completely cycles the tank before fish are introduced.
I gotta get used to seeing your new username and post count ...
yaknow Li might just transfer over the postcount if you tell him what is going on with "dawnmarie" and all ;):D

Hi,
Yes I would have to say your post was the easiest one on fishless cycling, to understand, I have read online.
I have a couple, or mabye a few questions. We are very new to the aquarium hobby, and need help understanding a few things:

1. We set our 84 gallon aquarium up, and filled it with water 6 days ago. We don't want to use poor defensless fish to cycle it, so we're doing the fishless cycle route.
I bought an Amonia, a Ph, and a Nitrite test kit tonight, and just for the fun of it, I tested my water, to get an idea of where it is. There is a small amount of amonia in the tank, the PH reading is at 7.8, and the Nitrites aren't measuring. Apparently there aren't any nitrites in the tank yet. We bought some stuff called Nutrifin Cycle, that's suppose to start the cycling process, but that's all we've used.
My question is, since there is amonia in the water, does that mean the tank IS doing it's cycle? Remember, it's only been 6 days since we added the water.
The fact that there appear to be NO nitrites in the tank, brings me to another question of, is this normal for this stage?

I should also add that on the advice of a local aquarium shop, we've done two 10% water changes in 6 days. Good, or bad advice?
