" Description Fluval Pre-Filter consists of inert, solid ceramic rings used to trap large and medium solid particles before they clog the finer sieves of the media baskets above. The media forces water into many complex paths as it moves through this layer. This further increases its mechanical and biological activity and expands the actual contacted filter area. An additional benefit, it supports large populations of bacteria for proper biological action on ammonia and nitrite. This reduces the need for frequent changes of the active filter media. Pre-Filter is permanent, and requires only occasional rinsing. This media can be used in fresh and marine environments without difficulty. "

This claims it will hold BB. I've never used it before myself though.
I always used it on my eheims and fluvals. Its an easy media never needs to be replaced and it helps mix the water up something fierce. And it has to hold beneficial bacteria just not in the huge amounts where most bio media would just end up being sludge filled.

Its not $12 a box it cost $17 a box. Also i just want to see it theres a cheaper alternative nothing wrong with saving a few bucks.
Order it online then! I mis read your original post. I cant believe you filled you filter up with prefilter. I would have at least created a thread about that before trying it. I always do and MFK never does me wrong :) I still stand by its use as a pre filter for my eheims and fluvals but its by no means an adequate bio media. Sorry to hear about this mistake man. No matter what though dont throw the stuff away just keep it you never know. And btw bio max is 17 here too but I ordered it from dr fosters for 12

You gotta look at whats in the box along with the price on the box.

From Drs F&S

1 liters box of ehfimech is $9.99

750g box of prefilter is $8.99. Now I don't know how many liters 750g is, but I do know that the 6.5" x 4.5" x 2.5" box that the 750g comes in can only hold a maximum of 1.2 liters and the box is only 3/4 full.
