Fluval FX6 on a 75 gal- NOT enough!??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try messing around with the position of the intake and return. Put one on each end of the tank. Or both on the same end. This worked best for me in the past. Put the return (example) on the left side/rear of the tank point the flow towards the right. Then the intake on the same side as the return. Hoping the water is pusged along the surface towards the right side panel, down the panel, and across the substrate towards the intake.

Also read the probiotics sticky by RD. Dosing with ridx has really helped with debris build up. I havent vacuumed my substrate in probably 3 yrs

First I love My FX6's and older FX5's. Plecos = Poop! Especially noticeable on sand. I run and FX6 (purigen) and a 150g rated wet/dry and a algae scrubber (experiment) on a 210g with a medium L24, 3 smaller L114's, med L137 and 15 Cory Melanistus. I believe someone mentioned weekly 75% water changes, I know I do 50-60% weekly. That's how I get rid of poop especially after heaving meaty feedings. On bare bottom tanks I run the intake to the bottom and never have poop issues and I also run a powerhead directing the current towards the intake.

I forgot where I found this idea, but this works really well in my 125g. Please don’t laugh at the crude drawings I made for you. Lol! All pics are as if standing over the tank looking down into it. The first pic shows where the intake is, and where the exhaust ports flow. One comes straight out and hits the glass and the other angles to hit the center of the tank glass. Pic two shows the direction of my water circulator (Fluval CP4). It’s mounted roughly 4 - 5” above my sand. Pic three shows the constant flow created by this setup. The three x’s in corners represent very minor poop collection if any when doing weekly water changes. I have a diy background with a Fluval FX6 and a SunSun HW302 with a Hydor inline heater. Both use the same intake and exhaust holes. Anyhow, I hope this helps you and/or others.
