Foods for Giraffe Nose Catfish

Hello MFKers,

This is my first post, so hoping to get a response.;) I was wondering if anyone has a giraffe nose cat and what they are feeding. I specifically wonder if anyone has a large giraffe nose; whatever you have been feeding it has to be working to make it grow and keep it healthy. I have been feeding ShoGold sinking pellets, but advertised for koi because it is much cheaper than Omega or Spectrum pellets. The pellets are not only messy, but I do not believe these are giving my giraffe nose the right nutrients. The giraffe nose also has grown about 4 inches in the last 9 months (from about 4 to 8 inches.) I was wondering if this is normal, since I hear of them approaching 2 feet relatively quickly.

I am looking for other feeding options, preferably the cheapest options, and options the giraffe nose will take willingly and fill up on. I also have 2 pacus, 2 oscars, a tiger shovelnose and a hybrid red-tailed cat. All in a 125-gal. I know this will eventually be too small, but the fish are still babies (8-14 inches length) and I have a little time yet to raise them in the 125.
 
I have a ripsaw or Niger cat which are vary simmaler. Mine eats bloodworms after my ray and I hive him sinking bottomfeeder pellets that are for larger preadatory cats. My budy I got him from brave him shrimp and krill as well. They aren't picky and normally will eat anything. Thier awesome cats but I would look at getting a bubbler sponge filter to put in the tank, they like to dig and dig and click up the sand or gravel all night looking for food, just if you don't want you tank to be cloudy for afew hours haha but good pick up, they make awesome tank mates.
 
Yes, I have been looking at getting a ripsaw sometime in the near future. Really neat fish and a good addition to the South American tank (the giraffe is the foreigner, ha.) I was wondering how/where you aquired your ripsaw and about how much one would cost. I got my giraffe nose for $30 from a local petshop and have the assumption that was a terrific deal. But I have never seen a ripsaw for sale at any petshop I've ever been to.

I heard they love bloodworms, or just any type of worms. Problem with that is the Pacus and Oscars will get to it before it ever hits the ground. I feed my other cats pork boneless ribs which is some of the least expensive meat at the local grocery store but also contains very little fat. The cats love it and so do the Pacus, but the giraffe won't touch it. I'm a little skeptical if the giraffe would respond differently to fish (you mentioned tilapia) or I've also heard beef heart. But I suppose if it was broken in mini chunks, it would suck it up. How small of pieces do you cut up the tilapia, scallops?
 
Well I tried scallops and pollock (tilapia is as expensive as salmon where I'm at) and no luck. My giraffe nose didn't touch it, although it was very hungry. I'm wondering if I have to wain it on those foods.

Do bloodworms come in various sizes? I have small bloodworms that I feed my knifefish, but they sink too slow and the other fish will eat them before the giraffe nose has the opportunity. Seems like bloodworms just aren't an option without isolating the giraffe nose.
 
Try to see if you can find an Asian food market local to you and buy a flat of freshwater clam meat. My giraffes go nuts for it. As they get bigger, try to frozen apple snails you can find their too.
