What type of freshwater eel preferably carnivorous that would fit in an 80 gallon. Also how do eels do with oscars?

Spiny eels are the only small ones, and are not carnivorous like morays but they are carnivores

Also an oscar alone will fill that tank, and spiny eels may not do well with an Oscar.

Monopterus albus or asian swamp eel will fit in that tank fine. It won't hunt down large fish efficiently but it will eat crayfish, dragonfly larvae, and small fish it can catch. I don't know how he will get along with the oscar though.

Getting potentially up to 2ft in aquariums, or more I wouldn't recommend that.

Plus an oscar is enough for that tank

I agree, an oscar alone could fill that tank and then some. It is a shame that oscars are so easily gotten, when most owners have no idea what they are getting. An excercise in practicality... try to sleep in a linen closet. Anywho, spiney eels are aweful fun. I would get rid of the oscar and go for the spiney eel of your choice. Start socking away for an upgrade, this is monster fish keepers after all... only monsters are here haha.

+1

I have yet to try spiny eels

I would try spiney eels if you can. They are an extremely personable fish. They got some decent sass, but are not bullies (as I have seen). Just be careful, they are not fans of pellets and do require a pickier diet of frozen blood worms and eventually night crawlers. Some get lucky and get the eel to feed on pellets... I think that is almost a unicorn though.
