so i just got a freshwater moray eel today and it looked like it was in pretty bad shape. after introducing it into my tank earlier today it started to spaz and twitch until it calmed down.

it's been breathing very heavily for the last few hours. it's still breathing heavily, but once in a while it lays on its side (head and all).

i went to my lfs and they said my water parameters were ok and that this is typical eel behavior when introduced into a new tank, but i'm afraid it's not going to make it and i'm not completely assured. does anyone know what i should do?

thanks. i have some aquarium salt. should i put some in the tank right now? i've turned the heat up a bit.

These "fresh water" morays should be kept brackish then slowly acclimated to full salt. Its one of their gimmicks to get people to buy them. I can't give you any advice on how to save it though. :(

i have a moray in freshwater right now i would add salt it should be a table spoon for every five gallons also shut the lights off it will help him relax

alright i've added salt and covered the tank to keep it dark. i'm going to continue checking up on the eel every hour or so. i really appreciate all the help.

Try not to turn the light on while hes like that it will stress him out more. Just check on him with the light in the room and peak under the cover.

good news. i just peaked under the cover for a bit and the eel's head's up. seems like he's doing a bit better, hopefully he'll get better and i'll have a chance to acclimate him to brakish/salt water. :)
