I think this post should have gone in the marketplace.

The fact that you are generating upwards of whatever annually, does not seem to fit well with me, whatever anyone else thinks.
Just curious, why not?
We've seen in the last 12 months we've lost two of the biggest suppliers for this side of the hobby. I can't imagine they are a 501c. most of the upstarts we see fade in 3-5yrs, if they have a suitable and stable business model, LFG!!

Nice to see an African fish exporter connecting to this site! Hopefully more West African fish species (especially catfish) may become available here in the U.S. through an importer in the near future. If so, hoping a list of available fish might be posted on this site for sale, every so often at least!

Thanks, man.

A stable business model is a wide range of quality fish, and good prices to ensure profitability

Why not? Well...I love the idea that MFK is a free forum, one which provides a lot of entertainment and also a source of information that might be very difficult to find otherwise. Having a body of experienced fishkeepers who are able to debate and examine an idea reveals much more in terms of useful and usable information than just googling it and reading disjointed bits of fluff from unknown sources of questionable credibility.

So...who pays for this site? I don't see a lot of ads plastered all over, so not much revenue from that source. The folks who kindly volunteer to run the place are not being paid, so that's good...but the only source of revenue generation would appear to be paid business accounts from retailers, importers, etc.

I guess it must be the Vendor section of the site, where a number of businesses have their own subforums that allow customers to contact them directly and ask questions about their services and their wares, that pays the bills around here. Surely those business accounts are not free, so it seems like they are a major source of revenue. When a new business like the OP's jumps in and starts advertising for free, in the general section, all those legitimate vendors are being left at a disadvantage.

Sure, give the new guy one freebie "look at me" post...but past that they should be paying their way just like all the competition, IMHO.

Point made and understood

As someone who has ran small businesses, with shoestring budgets, I would never invest in something without testing the waters first, thats what this feels like. Or are we going back to the old MFK where we chase every new participant away with gate keeping?
