There are several species listed in Wisconsin includining S. lacustris and S. fragilis. Two lakes containing S. lacustris are Trout Lake and Littlerock Lake. At least 28 more lakes are listed but the site that has the list is not one I am subscribed to.

Thanks guppy! I will have to try and find them one day!

the green branching type are probably your best bet, they "might" contain algae that help feed the sponge. I know that green hydras do have green algae the help feed them. If someone already has sponges that live in their tanks it would be the best bet for propagation for other tanks. Getting them from the wild is a hit or miss propisition. I know where some bryozoans are that grow to as big as basket balls and live in water that rises to the mid 80's during their most rapid growth. So far I haven't seen any spounges in the same water but I'm sure there are some just not the branching types. big bryozoans seem to be dependant on living where lots of snail eating fishes live, snails eat bryozoans like candy!
