Hi:

I'm planning to make a tanganyikan setup in a 285 gallon tank. My dominant fish will be the frontosa moba. There will be an alpha male around 6 inches, 4 females around 3 to 3.5 inches, along with 4 or 5 more 2 inches moba. All of them F1. This will be my first tanganyikan setup, because I always worked with malawi fish. Right now I have 4 leleupis, 6 synodontis muLtipunctatus and several 2 inches calvus anc comps. My question is which other fish will be a good tank mate to those frontosa mobas? Anything that will not affect the mobas and if possible add a bit of more coloration to the tank. So far I heard that the julidochromis, brichardis and leptosomas are a good options. I was interested in the Furcifer foai, but it doesn't seem to be a good option, apparently he needs to be the dominant fish of the tank. Any help, and advice is appreciate.

I've seen other folks make small rock-dwelling Tangs work with Frontosa, but it is always a gamble. As you know, they like to eat small fish.

I absolutely would not put Cyps in the tank. Unlike the rock dwellers, they will sleep on the sand at night. Frontosa make a living off of waking up earlier than the Cyps and feeding on them as they sit on the sand. Easy pickings on pricey fish.

Best combination I've seen includes Cyrtacara moori or another larger (but not too aggressive) Malawi hap. Most folks who keep groups of Frontosa keep them in a species tank.
