you really do not want to medicate all of them if they are not affected... and big waste of money doing a big tank....BarroomHero;3050779; said:Huh? Whats wrong with treating the whole tank with melafix?

i forgot to say that the drops should go directly to the eye(s)...plus i am not saying that you should not try melafix.One-thing i never do is tread my whole tank just to treat one fish, there is thing called "Hospital-tank"...good luck try the visine then you see how well it works......good luck....rallysman;3050756; said:Very interesting!
Water changes shouldn't be a problem since it's on a 24x7 drip. I did dose it with Pimafix so I'll see how that goes. I'll go get the pond strength melafix tonight....I'm out of it

this is my 4th treatment with visine but not on the same cichlid,my first time i tied Visine i was disport, i tried everything and i mean everything ant there was no resolt's,only thing that came to mind at that time was "Visine". Sure an off it worked.what i am tring to say is, this is'nt my first time, i am trying to help not to sell you guys stuff....BarroomHero;3050835; said:I treated the whole tank to prevent any other fish from getting popeye, or other external bacteria infections/secondary infections from the dead fish/small ammonia spike. I know what a hospital tank is.
I am just curious, how do you know that the visine-a is even safe for fish? I have been told by eye doctors that visine isnt good to use, that it mostly just constricts the blood vessels.
It may be easier for you to do this... but in the average fish room with many tanks... medicines get expensive... and over medicating healthy fish is sometimes the worst thing you can do...depending on the medicine that is used... it can effect their immune system ... and when you want the medicine to work it won't because the parasite or bacterial infection will not respond... always best to isolate the fish.. and in the case of injury especially it gives it a chance to heal by taking it away from the bully that did it in the first place... also when you isolate you can keep a better eye on the progress of healing... instead of the fish hiding out in some dark cornor of the big tank...BarroomHero;3050801; said:Its not that expensive, plus I usually stop treatment once the problem goes away instead of doing the 7 day thing like the bottle says. Its worked well for me the few times I have used it and I havent had any problems with treating the whole tank.

thanks.... The best medicine of all is ....... water changes......then melafix is pretty good too...BarroomHero;3051047; said:Good points, and I agree. I usually do treat in a hospital tank, especially with harsher/more potent meds, but sometimes I will treat the entire tank depending on the situation. Melafix is actually the only med I have used on the entire tank as I consider it to be pretty mild.
