IMO & IME, it totally depends on the species of fish you are breeding, so impossible to vote a definitive yes or no. I have raised numerous cichlid species feeding nothing but NLS fry food. I typically had more fry than I could give away.

Having said that, with some species of fish, live foods are essential for survival, not because of nutrient levels being higher, but because those species of fry at early stages require live food to trigger a feed response.

Good point .. I've been alternating between live bbs and ocean nutrition bbs and hikari first bites .. I notice with the non live / dry versions I need to stir up the food with a turkey baster to encourage feeding .. mid water .. I guess live food has an added benefit of slower decomp too

One more question .. I've just had some java moss on wood deliver from aqua-essentials .. very good rep for plants .. I messaged them to say did I need to disinfect the plants when they arrived and how they recommended.. they've come back and said no - their plants were clear of parasites / snails etc (I usually use pp .. but I'm reluctant to with moss) - am i ok just putting in after a good rinse?

If it's a trusted source, I typically just toss the plants into the tank without any rinsing or anything.
