Gar Identification - Post your Gar to be ID'd HERE!!

i knew what it was before i posted the other thread or this post...lol

the bigger cuban has taken tillapia, fd shrimp, and just tonight i can add pellets to that list! the smaller cuban will take tillapia. i have not tried market shrimp yet, but with in the week that will be on there menu. almost time to feed the big gars there shrimp.

Yes, those are Florida gars.

I recommend removing the first two pictures because you will catch a lot of crap for having them in with any cichlids, let alone African cichlids, which are not appropriate tankmates for gars at all. I can tell that there are aggression issues with the cichlids because of the fraying in the gars' fins, so you're going to want to move them to a different aquarium.

They look like Floridas to me. The fin damage in the first pic isn't a good sign. You may want to consider not keeping them with Africans.

+1 :)

I will take the advise and keep an eye out on them but the tank seems to be fine. my tank is well stocked almost zero aggression and the gars seem very relaxed in the tank as well. Just did a feeding and everyone including the gars ate pellets with no aggression but i will def keep an eye out on them thanks for all the advise.

Even if the cichlids don't bother them. I have a walking catfish in with my 2 Gars. One of them takes shots at him once in awhile even though they couldn't possibly eat it. They do quite a bit of damage. Better safe than sorry. Nice looking Gars though. Enjoy them they are neat fish.

That peace is only momentary; it will break down soon even if there's zero aggression among the cichlids.
