do tell, am always looking for ways to improve the forum. how would you suggest we prevent the sticky section from getting too cluttered yet let the thread titles better describe its content?

The main legality thread should be on its own just so that people will definitely see it; maybe change the title to "Read Before Asking About Gars: Gar Legality."

The rest of the stickies are fine in my opinion because the ones that are grouped together deal with care and other similar subjects.

"Do Tell?" Sorry bud. I have to let you know, that just sounds like someone looking down the nose at a random comment. An attitude which I do not share. I tend to want to let everyone feel welcome, and equal.

That being said. I also would suggest that at the very least a legality thread should be up there seperate from the others. This is a prominent issue here in the states, and it would be nice to have that visiable for potential Gar owners.

I self edited to unneeded information and opinion. :)

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, reGARding your first point, i have to say i don't know how you can get that idea. it's seldom that you catch me turning away an opinion before hearing it out. by saying what you've said, you're basically implying that i don't want others to feel welcome and equal. i personally feel that that was pretty uncalled for, especially considering that one will not be able to tell the "tone" or "facial expression" of the original poster of said comment (aka me).

that being said, i do take criticism and feedback about this forum very seriously (much more so than advisable anyways). and will start another discussion reGARding how best to fit the stickies (when i have the time!). here is our previous discussion.

Hope that was a satisfactory response. criticism and feedback are always welcome here. although using more appropriate channels for this type of feedback might leave a better taste in the mouth for all involved next time round.

Cheers, look forward to your response.

i agree that would be nice informational forum

just a two short comments on this:

- after reading the posts, i didn't get any bad attitude from xander's post, but as stated earlier, tone and general emotion don't carry through in text on a forum, so miscommunication will take place from time to time.

- i agree that some of the stickies needed to be consolidated, but given the legality of gars is a big issue and comes up frequently (perhaps only second to "please ID my Florida gar") and therefore warrants its own spot as a sticky. at least then it is clearly visible and there are no questions.

we should include a map similar to Ryan's (nice job) in said thread as that will help for those who prefer pictures to reading :) --

Why are some fish illegal in USA? In germany you can keep evry species, the only species that is banned is snapping turtles.

Some fishes are illegal based on their known ability to out-compete the native fishes, but some fishes are illegal based on their perceived ability to out-compete the native fishes even though said fish(es) might not be able to even survive the winter or have a chance of taking over.

Guys,

Im really not trying to make a big deal of this, and would not have responded if Xander did not request one. But he is looking forward to my response! ;) In general there are certain things that when said do reek of negative attitudes. I dont think I have ever heard the term "Do Tell" in any way that has not implied attitude. It's just the way it is. I am in no way thinking that Xander is a bad guy, only that the specific statment would make just about anyone feel a bit of an attitude. Just imagine it in reality, and not on the interwebz..... lol.

If your superior suggested that he or she thought there was a better way for you to accomplish your goal, at work, or school per your current position, would it not taste of arrogance if your response was "Do Tell."?

Sorry guys, Im glad the sticky was returned. I guess Im just the feeling police today.

Chris
