German Blue Ram male spawning with two females?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I added four new flat rocks and moved the largest flat rock to where they previously spawned...So hopefully with 5 rocks in there, they'll get the hint.
When I had my hand in the tank but was looking at the rocks outside the tank, I felt...tap..tap..tap tap...tap tap tap tap....Look over and the female is going absolutely insane attacking my finger. The male joined in a minute later. They're mean little buggers! I love it. :)

So, if I were to remove the eggs from the tank and put them in a breeders net, do you need to acclimate eggs to new water like you do with fish?

I wouldn't be overly concerned. Just try it and see how it goes. Or maybe the parents will get it right and you'll be surprised. :D

About a week ago he spawned with one of the females! They didn't eat the eggs but the night they were supposed to hatch, I woke up to find no baby fish and no eggs. ):
He just spawned yesterday with the other female and I'm watching them like a hawk. So far no eggs have gone missing!! I'm hoping the eggs will hatch during the day, tomorrow or the next day, so that if they try to eat the little wrigglers again I can remove them and put them in my fry grow out tank.

I'm so excited, they're finally starting to figure out this parenting thing!

It usually takes about 2 - 2 1/2 days for them to hatch into wrigglers. Usually by second day the eggs will darken and you will see little black eyes in them if you look really closely.

My young Krobia guianensis pairs have been spawning for a couple months or so now. They're all on their fourth or fifth batch of eggs and finally today one of the pairs got it right. The eggs have been disappearing after two days and I thought they were either infertile and the parents ate them, or they ate the wrigglers. But today I came home to find free-swimmers with one of the pairs. So yes, sometimes just giving them some time is all you need.

If they spawned yesterday, you should expect wrigglers on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Let us know. :D

Yep, I read that it could be as little as 40 hours with the temp in the low/mid 80's, which is where mine's at. They lay their eggs in such an awkward spot in the tank that it's hard for me to see them. It's in the corner, and the rock slopes away from me, so it's difficult! I think after they get the hang of this parenting thing, I want to do a slight rearranging of the tank so the big flat rock they spawn on is at the front of the tank!

Do you have any pictures of your new little free-swimmers? :)

Unfortunately, no pictures. The pair hid them in a really inconvenient spot, much like your rams. ;) They do like their privacy though so I'm sure it's on purpose. I have a thread on them here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?467593-Krobia-guianensis-spawn
