The female ghost shrimp is over 1 year old and produces eggs. I don't have any other ghost shrimp. Today observing the eggs they looked very different from the past. I noticed a black speck on one. If you can zoom in on the pic and let me know what you think

tlindsey tlindsey I’ve had a group of a 2-3 dozen ghost shrimp in a 55gal for well over a year. I just saw a baby shrimp for the first time in my tank, it seems like these shrimp don’t reproduce as easily as others, but it does happen. I do see shrimp with eggs from time to time, also pictured below.
For size comparison: the two baby fish next to the baby shrimp on the sponge filter there are Endler fry.

Well that proves they don't need brackish or marine environment to reproduce.

I guess you’re right. I always thought they needed brackish but that pic proves it. Did a bit of searching and found this, which confirms it:

I've had red cherry shrimp before, and if the water is right they multiply like crazy. I found them everywhere including my filters. It turned into a giant colony in my 220 gal tank. When I moved to a different part of the county they didn't like the water and the population slowly faded away. I still live in the same place. Maybe ghost shrimp would reproduce better elsewhere, with different water chemistry?
