And, BTW, some Dasyatid (eg: sabina) and some Himantura (eg: bleekeri) rays can be maintained in, and are sold as, FW and are NOT on CAs restricted species list.

Oddball, i checked the species you put up and they are similiar to the 2 rays i saw, they could be a "Dasytid", but they labeled it Freshwater Giant Stingray, so i'm not absolutly sure... but you know, certain people are very good at deceiving... LOL, a name could change everything... right?

Chev, odds are they were Dasyatis sabina, Atlantic Stingray. They are often sold as "freshwater" in the pet trade but they should ideally be kept in saltwater as that's what nature designed them for. Also, they are not giants -- they max out at about 14"-16" across.
