Glass Thickness Guide

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm thinking of building a 48"x16"x12" (LxWxH) tank so it would be roughly 39.9 US gallons or 151.02 Liters.

I'm wondering how thick the glass I would need because your thread doesn't mention tanks that are 12"s tall. Do you think I should add a center brace or any other form of reinforcement?

I'm gonna guess that 6mm is safe for my sized tank from your list of recommended sizes

QUESTION; what about a tank thats 48x48x21??? i am thinking of using 55g and buying a new bottom that would b thicker them the other peaces???

should be around 240 gals. better to use thicker bottom glass say 19 mm and the rest, you should be fine with 12mm glass. be sure to provide ample bracing / supports.

10mm

Ok my first post. How can you calculate thickness for just a viewing window? Fully framed the window would only support the water. Big, something like 4x8 ft or 6x10

I am thinking acrylic.

Go here and click the aquarium calculator. You would use the dimension of the entire tank just as if you were building an entire tank.

I'm building an 80" L x 20" W x 32" H. I plan on using 15mm glass, the safety factor is 2.4 I'll still be using cross braces on top and longitudinal bracing on the bottom. What is the target safety factor ? Can I go an inch or 2 higher and still be ok?
