Goldfish tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Arguably you could do one, but you'd be looking at an upgrade down the line; as well as the fact that goldfish are quite social.

I kept 2 in a 22 gallon long for a while, and am currently setting up a similar one just now with the same goal; that worked quite well for me, they thrived.

P.s it would be fancy goldfish, the common goldfish require much bigger tanks

It's best not to buy fish that you don't have a good tank for.
Read up on cycling before buying any fish or they'll just end up dying and/or suffering painful ammonia burns.
Most fancy goldfish will need at least a 30 gallon, common goldfish need much larger tanks. Most pet stores will lie and tell you that's not the case, but they're just trying to get you to buy something.

I realize it's hard to believe that the little pet shop goldfish can outgrow a 10. That's due, in part, to rarely seeing adult specimens available for sale. The adult size goldfish demand prices that are beyond the investment level that an average lfs would be willing to make.
Here are a few examples:

Just to let you know this is not my first tank it

My apologies, just though I'd be sure. Better to give someone advice they don't really need than to have someone be discouraged by having their new tank end up full of dead fish.

minimum tank size, for me, for 1-2 short bodied, and just as important, short tailed fancies is 45 gallons. Minimum tank size for 1? Probably the same, but i'd imagine you can get away with a 30 gallon.
