It is listed as "Near Threatened": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagarius_yarrelli

I am not aware of such issues. The big issue with these is their vulnerability when small - most die en-route or soon thereafter. Hence, for every 1000 RTCs or TSNs etc. there is only one Bagarius yarelli kept by hobbyists. Of course, their immense size (slow growth though), much bigger than RTC, TSN and Co, ferocity, and compatibility problems do not help much either.

I just recieved an 9"er Yesterday guy is so laid back just lays on the bottom all day tries to swim up the side of the tank with the current... temp is 72* NH3 0ppm NO2 0ppm NO3 20ppm do a regular WC 1 time a week Every Saturday till i finish my drip system this weekend.. Feeds on Live Currently trying to break him from Feeders & convert to MD Pellets & Frozen... if you check our wikipedia it stated their NT Near Threatened as Biggerthebetter states... the Indian goonch are the ones that has been dying off rather quickly... Wes(fugupuff) has a disclaimer on them... they guy i bought him from got 2 from wes one was semi-doa guy tried to revive him couldnt the other goonch which is now mine did great... drip acclimated him for 2hr at 2 drips per second and he's roaming the QT like he is 3ft long calm i can pet?pick-up my goonch...

Does anyone know the lifespan of the goonch? I understand they grow far slower than an RTC and they reach large sizes so I figure they could be quite long lived but I'm not sure.

If you're petting your goonch you have more balls then I do :p They have a serious set of teeth on them I would not like to get tagged by one of these
