Right now it only has hall lights so it is not bright in the tank I do believe it likes it better a little darker.True. Lighting, and background or substrate being light or dark can also affect color, or simply how they show up in your tank. Fish adapt to various lighting setups, but while most of us tend to brightly light our tanks, a number of species would normally try and stay in the shade in nature. So bright lights, light background, bright substrate (or no substrate), little or no shade from driftwood or plants might be standard for some people, but it wouldn't be natural for some of their fish.
exodus1500 you have a beautiful severum. If you look at my pictures everything disappears when it is pale. When it’s dark it does have some bars but all except for the last one are hard to see.
I gave her her own tank with a couple dither fish. It was a 29 gallon for a short time until I get my 210 gallon. No she has been scared ever since I brought her home so I am very slow. When the 210 gallon they will all go in there and I will see how it goes. I just feel bad because she is so scared of people.Looks like a 9 bar lady to me, wouldn't suspect much other than efasciatus. The first pic screams female to me, body shape, pattern, and eyes... Guessing the firemouth prevented her from ever getting comfy, I'd give it more time.

I am going to look those up in a bit and see what they look like. I would like to get one or two more but I have to figure out stocking, it’s so hard to choose. LolThanks,
Here is a link to some of my other types in my collection:

I put 3 corys in the new tank before she went it. I think she just needs more time. I feel bad that she is scared.Weirdly enough, the best dither fish I have gotten are a cheap group of corydora. every tank I have thrown them into has almost immediately gotten less skitish.
Severums are known to be skittish at first and pout a bit. Not as bad as oscars, but they definitely do it.
