green terror: stalsbergi vs rivulatus white saum

they grow slow, like .25" per month on avg if they are like the green terror. so I would say like at least 2 years.

Avoid doing 20% water changes. its not very much especially for a smaller tank.

the last Stals posted belongs to Gregory Brown... he has quite a few wild and F1 adults and hundreds of fry available lol he has some amazing Stalsbergi setups :D

He does! I haven't seen him active in any groups in a long time though. Which group was this?

That is the nicest stalsbergi I've ever seen

I'd have to agree with Philipraposo, with weekly 20% water changes, you're going to see an extremely slow growth rate. Fresh water is key for these guys, as it is for most cichlids. I would up it to at least 50% weekly - and if possible, twice a week. Also, I wouldn't recommend BWs every other day, but once every other week or so. I can't even remember the last time I fed my fish BWs, I've just been making my own treat to feed them once in a while

@aztsm as Cyberman stated he posted these in a few groups on FB.

I would imagine this guy is looking slightly slim bc he's wild caught and was recently imported to Rapps' facility, so he probably hasn't been fed often due to all the traveling... I can't wait to see how he looks in a few months

Thanks for the advice, 50% water changes twice a week it will be.

I did notice a definite difference in their activity when feeding frozen bloodworm as opposed to flake food.

Any ideas as to why this would be?

Thanks again to anyone that chimes in with suggestions and/or ideas!

Rule of thumb... The smaller the tank - per volume of fish - the more water changes required. I quite often do 25% water changes on my 10 gallon fry tanks once a day. The bigger more well filtered tanks once a week.

My Stals fry are now 1 - 1.5cm long at 1 month old... that isn't slow growth in my book. My Stals male is almost an inch longer in 2 months.

I know the Stals are harder to come by and what not - but I prefer the Rivulatus, at least based on looks. I can't comment on how their personalities may differ since I have never kept Stalsbergi.

Although I have to admit - the stalls in this thread are very nice looking!

Great job!

Each to their own ;)

Stals are much more active and characterful IMO with funky fat lips and variation of colour - normal to breeding dress. No denying Rivs are a bonny fish but what one has the other has in a different way. Stals are more an "Emerald green" with mustard green yellows and blacks that enhance the spangling when breeding while Rivs have a lovely "Turquoise Green" with oranges and black dots on the metal scales.
