Hi,

I am setting a 60g tank for a GT male but will have plants and substract and want to get a cleaning crew, so I wonder if it´s more likely that it tolerates a group of small corydoras or - on the contrary - it´s more probable that it kills them.

I would think the GT will not even notice the corys but never kept this combo before, hence I´m asking.

The tank will also be used as a growout for a panaque L-191.

Thanks for the replies

I dont know how big is the gt but i have a 3" one with cories as clean up and he couldnt be more ignorant of them.

Larger cories might work w/ a GT, but I wouldn't just add them for a clean up crew. They need to be fed like any other fish, and will starve if you don't feed them.
The whole "clean up crew" thing just doesn't work or keep your tank any cleaner. What goes in must come out the other end, so it doesn't help your water quality and actually makes it worse.
If is water quality you are worried about, then feed less and do more water changes. Don't be lazy.

@cichlidfish

I am well aware that the corys need to be fed and what they need to eat and fully understand the "real concept" of clean up fish.
Having said that and although I appreciate your input to the threat, the final "don´t be lazy" comment seems to be way out of line. I really don´t understand why people have this urge to try to teach lessons to fellow fishkeepers that they don´t know, immediately assuming that they don´t do their job properly. Geeez..

@Antonio,
most likely it´ll be a goldsaum; not a true GT

In my opinion it is perfectly okay to keep cory's with it. Specially if it's a big group with a small GT. But my other question is, why only have a 60g for a male GT? Is it to put with your other monsters?
I think an Amazonic biotope would look great ;)

@cichlidfish
I also think it was not necessary that comment, having know Joao I would probably bet he knows a lot more about fishkeeping than you. If you'd seen his other tanks you would immediately understand he is not lazy.

I personally will not do it. You are taking chances of loosing two fish. Learn this the hard way with an Oscar. If you need a cleaner go with Raphael catfish or one of the bigger armor cats.

Antonio,
The 60g will be just for the GT - as centerpiece - possibly with a group of corys, and the idea is to keep him there, not to put him in the bigger tanks, unless I start seeing him too big for that tank.
But I intend to get a medium one (around 5-6") so, I´ll have time to see how it goes

Thanks for your input.
Perhaps I mislead you in the title, but the idea is not to put a single corydora. They don´t do well alone and require a minimum group of 5, if I remember well (last time I kept corydoras was more than 20 years ago). Therefore, should I move forward with this, I will add at least 6 of them (possibly C. sterbai)
