Hi, does anyone use grey electrical pipe? Does it have any biocides or bad things for aquarium life in the plastic? I know it has UV protectors, I don`t know if thats bad or maybe there are other additives in it also. I like the grey color better than white, and I can`t find sch80 grey in long pieces for stand pipes etc. Thanks Rich

Electrical conduit is measured by Outside Diameter whereas plumbing PVC conduit is measured by Internal Diameter so 20mm pipe is totally different between the two standards. I have used both but I would stick with plumbing conduit since its designed to be watertight, is pressure rated (ie class 12 PVC can hold weight of 12m of vertical water) has a wider range of fittings and is much easier to calculate friction co-efficients for pumps.

If you use electrical pipe then you are committed to use electrical pipes, fittings, adapters throughout. I think only the thick walled orange electrical conduit is for underground use which has mould inhibitors. I am in Australia though.....

JohnPTC,Thanks for the Mcmaster-Carr.com link-very interesting. You use the electrical pipe? Sch.80 is alot darker color, and if I decide not to use overflow boxes for some new acrylic tanks/w black back it will look better. Also in my ponds Sch. 80 is less visible. thanks

Krylon Fusion plastics paint is tank safe after curing.
Green used just right looks like a bad algae problem .

If you use any male or female adapters for bulkheads then you should switch to electrical. plumbing threaded ends are tapered and will not be able to snug completely.

You can heat the electrical PVC and put nice bends and offsets in it.

I have an opportunity to get a bunch for free. It is thicker than sch.80, and they connect the pieces with a machine that melts the pieces together. I was told it is used for the mains on housing developments. Is anyone familiar with it? Does It have any bad chemicals in the plastic that would harm fish or boilogical filters? Thanks
