I made some rooking mistakes with Oscars when i was a little kid, I knew a guy that freaking dumped 2 of them in our local man made lake that is pretty cold and they survived for a while! Some messed up stuff done to these guys because of the people who buy them for 5.99 at Petco and just want to feed them goldfish and guppies.

Its probably plenty of people who has abused Oscars because of listening to a lfs who only cares about sales or people not taking time to do research.

Really they must have had fun in there for a while, I wonder how many fish they attacked or the real damage they caused to the ecosystem. we come across those people who feed live fish quite often, definitely not recommended to feed these guys goldfish and most of them don't know any better.

The vendor has nothing to do with it. It's time for humans to be responsible. Do the research!! It's never been optional and I absolutely despise anyone who takes in any animal in to their care without understanding what's involved.

Now days we have the internet and it's even more of a reason why we need to come down hard on those who didn't take 1 min to do a google search and literally click on any one of the links on the first page and read for a few more minutes to find majority of the basic info they need to get started.

Do I expect so.eone to have fully mastered everything there is to know about a species before purchase? No of course not. But at least find out how long they live, size, minimum tank size, temp req, food, tank mates. All of this can be found in less that 5 min online.

There is no excuses, not one valid excuse. The whole let's blame the pet stores is bullshit.t hats like blaming your school's for not raising your child right.

Don't get my started on LFS...

You definitely make some valid points there Phillip not going to deny that. The internet is filled with information that only takes a few seconds to find but i think a lot of it comes down to laziness or just not giving a crap. Everything is fine till they see a half eaten fish or one that is half dead floating in the tank. We run some pretty big groups on facebook and its an all too familiar sight i'm afraid. We always promote research before any decision when it comes to anything aquarium related. Some listen some know it all but we know how that works out. Research is key, thanks for commenting.
