Great video. You hit all the major points that a new Oscar owner needs to know.

I used to be one of them guys, 14 years ago or so, I had a 55 with 3 big Oscars in it. And at times did feed them feeders, more of a treat every now and then, then as a staple as some do. Had them for a year and a half till the heater died and cooked them.

I know I have made some mistakes along the way. Some major chaos of my own creation. But now I do think I got her tank and tankmates set to a point that will give her a great long life. It's all right here in my thread all about my big beautifull beast.

In this near year now since I got my Toni I have learned that I was way in the wrong back then. Tho I did change water very religiously like I do now.

I know I am doing right by my Oscar now tho. She is in a 125gal 6ftx18inx20in tank now. She has 2 Aquaclear 110s and an FX4. That's 1700 gallons an hour of filtration. (Thinking of getting another FX4 for 2400gal an hour) She gets 50% or more water changed every other day. She is on a staple diet of Hikari Carnisticks and freeze dried Krill. She gets treats of frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, live meal worms, crickets and a couple fish that were supposed to be pets, but she said they are food......It's been a bumpy road so far, but I think she has turned out great so far.

Great video.

I made the mistake of listening to a guy at a LFS on Oscars. He told me an oscar can live in a 40g for life. This was before the internet, and my first cichlid. I learned the hard way by starting w/ a 20g, then 55g and the 72g. Had to keep upgrading. He ended up getting HITH. IMO they were right on saying 125g-180g is ideal for an oscar. A 13” fish really needs 6’ swimming space. They can’t really do that in a 4’ tank.

Another problem is the internet providing poor info and even on here you still are people who saying 55g-75g is ok for an oscar. Some people start threads to find info on what they want to hear. They’ll listen to those saying a 55g because they have one and want an oscar. They won’t listen to people suggesting larger tanks. In fact some people get pissed when you say bigger is better.
