Pomadasys bayanus ?
Nope, but very close, this one is about 4" smaller than the purplemouth and unlike it in that it will feed in brackish and even marine water while the bayunus is entirely fresh water, right genus though.

This one shoals in grass beds and weedy marshes mainly. Yes, they are all the same species.

Some of the fish are anadromous. They could go in fresh and then salt water...

The middle one is also a pinfish, or at least posted as one. I included the middle one because it was a color phase I had never seen, I thougt it was a grunt as well but the yellow lines and spine count seem to match as does the mouth shape. It is the Lagodon rhomboides, It gets to 40cm., lives from Massaschutes to the Yucatan, Lives in slow weedy waters inland, brackish reed marshes, and full salt, shoaling in turtle grassbeds, has been known to breed in all three environments. I thougth they were salt too and did not know they got bigger than 15cm. Here are 2 more color varients, I would import the Florida distribution map but I don't know how to detatch it from the 9 pages of text. The site is a Florida government one.
