Way to go Fugupuff!
They have renamed the genus to Varicorhinus alticorpus, but yes it is still the Ku from Taiwan, sort of goofy looking guys.
Your post!

Mekong Delta
GOOD LUCK!

"In the Old Calabar, Ogooue¤ , Congo,
and Cross Rivers of West Africa dwells the mysterious
‘ukpam’, the collective term used by natives to refer to
Urogymnus ukpam and other large freshwater stingrays;
U. ukpam is known from fewer than a half-dozen specimens
collected since its discovery in 1863like the Yeti or
Bigfoot, appearing sporadically and just often enough to
keep the legend alive (Scha« fer, 2001)."

No luck on finding any pictures, as Mahseer says it is mainly from the "Old Calabar" river system but has shown up in Gabon, DRCongo, Nigeria, Cote de Ivorie, Guinea Bissau, and Camaroon. It used to be called Dasyatis ukpam and the thorny freshwater ray. It has no tail sting. Total length is only reported as 65 cm making it only a 1/3 as big as it's close relative the sw and brackish African thorny ray Urogymnus asperrimus, now called U. africanus. They are similar in shape but the ukpam lacks the dorsal mottling, here is a picture of the saltwater one.
