Change the blackground to black if you want more gold

This is mine, estimated 12 inch

It is said that white is to induce crossing while black is to bring out the gold.. Mine was keep in a black tank all the time

My other thought is, are the pellets you feeding causing the reddish tint on your Aro?

That could be a reason too. Color enhancing pellets is more suitable for red aro to bring out the reddish in them

I suspect that the pellets do play a part in the fish's coloring.

I wouldn't agree that any food does.
Well all the foods contain compounds and amino acids that will potentially effect colour, maybe indirectly through simple good health and sometimes pigments that effect colour more directly

Wellll,there are low quality fish foods that are pretty much crap and nothing for a fish's coloring so I won't say that any food helps color.
