Not too sure if this was the right forum but anyway who here does their own home repairs. I've always had handyman books before the internet and they helped greatly. I must admit though that some honest tradesmen on YouTube have saved me lots of repair expenses. Yesterday before going to work went down the basement to feed my fish and noticed water under my furnace and my central air conditioner coils is on top. I didn't get excited so Googled water under furnace running ac unit. Found a video that made perfect since. The issue was clogged drain pipes. Went to the hardware store and purchased a cheap wet/dry vac tool. After sending a blast of forced air through and switched to suction for the end of pipe leading into floor drain corrected the issue. Really didn't want to call any one. I've done simple electrical projects, toilet and sink repairs, painting. I know my limitations so I will call a experienced qualified person.
It's gratifying feeling when you can tackle some of home repairs.

I always use YouTube to troubleshoot stuff at home all the time. Had to wire my nest thermostat and the wiring wasn’t right. Worked out in the end. That was definitely some years ago.

I'm with you mate, I like to do basic things like toilet o-ring & plumbing, deconstructed a wall in our great room & built the pictured kitchen island base and had the granite top installed, paint, etc. I do a lot of stuff outside but I'm not great at detailed finishes. I enjoy having a crack at stuff, but know my limits as well 🤪

2 summer projects from this year. Built this walkway to our pool so my mother in law can get in using steps instead of an up & over ladder. Built a chicken coup with my son

I have family members who are journeyman carpenters, though I’m not particular handy. As a result, I’ve participated in a full home reno, learned to do drywall and trims, put in a set of wood stairs, built in cabinetry, and so on.

Don’t know I’d be able to tackle all of those projects on my own - but I’ve gotten quite comfortable with small scale electrical work - which is good for a guy who wasn’t handy at all until I was an adult!

You tube has tutorials on absolutely everything. It's got me out of the proverbial on many occasions, whether it be for a bit of bike maintenance, gardening DIY or perfecting a recipe in the kitchen for example.

I draw the line though when it comes to electrics and plumbing. It's not that I don't trust the skilled guys who've made the video. I just don't trust myself to follow their instructions to the letter.
