Yep, that's me! I've been growing it out for about 17 years, but I do get it trimmed up six or eight inches every few years - when it gets too long I start to sit on it...

As far as trimming their nails, I thought about it but I don't think you could hold them still enough.

I trim my rat's nails, it's a challenge, but it can be done. They are pretty high energy too. I only bother when they get really stabby.

Sand paper works well for my rats, but I put it on their ramps rather than the climbing bars. It seems to work best there. The only problem with sand paper is that it has to be changed all the time, gets expensive.

well and these guys sleep A TON so maybe you could do it like you do with a baby and try to do it while they are sleeping really quickly or while they are still groggy from sleep lol
